Keene Roots: The Farm Café

Keene Roots: The Farm Café was created in April 2022 as part of a collaborative assignment in our production class at Keene State College. My group chose to spotlight a small local business in Keene, NH, and we decided on The Farm Café, the town’s only fully vegan café at the time.

We spent time filming inside the kitchen, where the owner, Skip, walked us through how he prepares some of his signature dishes. We also sat down with him for an interview, where he shared the history, values, and mission behind the café. Even though he was incredibly open, he still kept a few secret vegan recipes under wraps, and the reason why became one of the fun moments of the documentary.

For this project, I handled all of the sound work and editing. I focused on capturing clean, detailed audio, from the sizzle of the grill to the bell at the counter. While keeping Skip’s interview crisp and clear. In the edit, I paid close attention to color correction, pacing, photo layouts, J-cuts, and choosing music that matched the café’s warm, earthy vibe.

The final film was well-received and was selected to screen at Keene State College’s annual film festival, highlighting standout work from students preparing to enter the industry and rising seniors. It was a great experience blending documentary storytelling with the charm of a local business that puts community and creativity first.
