The Teachers Farewell
During my senior year of High School, I noticed so much of the attention was on the seniors leaving. I wanted to shine a light on the teachers and faculty leaving as well. This made me want to set out to create a film about teachers leaving Milton High School. I wanted the videography to carry as much emotion as the interviews themselves. My goal was to visually capture the sense of transition, gratitude, and closure that comes with saying goodbye. Along with teaching the students how to celebrate and be happy for their teachers’ decisions to make advancements in their careers.
I started by filming the interviews. I used soft lighting and medium framing to highlight each teacher’s expression, making their reflections feel personal and sincere. This was followed by B-roll. This became essential because I wanted to focus more on highlighting the happy and memorable moments of their teaching. I wanted to avoid making this video feel too sad or sappy.
I focused on smooth, thoughtful camera movement to match the mood of each moment. Even simple tracking shots carried emotional weight when paired with the right pacing. I focused lots on the relationships the teacher had with their students. I made it apparent that I wanted to show the relationships between students and teachers because teachers are more than just faculty; they become family and mentors.
This project reminded me how powerful videography can be in telling real stories. Through light, composition, storytelling, and movement, I was able to honor the teachers of Milton High School and create a visual goodbye worthy of their years of dedication and service.
